WHAT IS THE YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM (YEP)?
The Youth Empowerment Program (YEP!) provides space for teens to grow in self-confidence, leadership and social skills while introducing them to new experiences and opportunities.
The future is brightest when youth have the power to shape the present.
DESCRIPTION OF PUBLIC ART COLLABORATION
Community enCompass is seeking a Muskegon-based artist to join high school youth (YEPs) in conceptualizing a large-scale mural for the front (52ft x 9ft) and left side (13ft x 9ft) of the Sacred Suds Community Center, located at 289 E. Larch. YEPs will ultimately sign off on a design before paint hits the wall.
Along with artistic skill and experience, interested artists must be comfortable exploring justice issues with teens, collaborating with them to build a vision. and delegating tasks (to whatever extent is possible come August) once painting is underway.
The conversations and creative process will be filmed and edited by YEP for a video released in conjunction with the unveiling of the mural.
APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE
1-2 minute video introducing yourself to YEPs: Who are you? What is your current artistic focus and why? Why are you interested in this project?
Artist’s resume and portfolio of relevant work for YEPs to review
