McLaughlin Grows Urban Farm 2018 CSA Program

Order before march 1st for the early bird special discount

2018 will include several types of shares. Read through the descriptions below to find the perfect sized share for you! (sighn up and payment at the bottom of the page)

Full Weekly Share

Each Full Weekly Share (equivalent to full grocery bag or more) consists of freshly harvested, superbly cleaned, naturally grown vegetables. We have found that one Full Weekly Share is ideal for a family of three or four who expect to eat a lot of vegetables, or a larger family with an average amount of vegetables in their diet. If you are concerned about being able to consume a full share of vegetables each week, consider finding someone to split with: sharing is encouraged!

Possible seasonal vegetables offered will include a bounty of assorted mature and baby kale, lettuces, salad mixes, Swiss chard, mustard greens, spinach, heirloom tomatoes, root vegetables, summer and winter squashes, onions, leeks, cabbage, cucumbers, eggplant, assorted beans, snap peas, bell and hot peppers, a variety of herbs and more!

Every-Other-Week Share

The same size as the Full Weekly Share, but picked up half as often….every-other week! This share was designed for smaller families or individuals who may not be able to utilize the full-sized share. The key to using this share affectively is to use the produce that will wilt or spoil quickest first (such as lettuce or spinach), saving hearty vegetables (such as potatoes or collards) for later use.

Spring Salad Share

Available for four weeks in the spring, this share consists of enough assorted fresh greens to make several large salads for each week distributed!

Workplace CSA

Wellness programs are springing up all across the workplace, and healthy food can be added to your fitness plan! Gather five or more staff members from your workplace and register each for either the “Full Weekly Share” or “Every-Other-Week Share”. We will deliver your freshly picked produce the afternoon of harvest day right to your place of work at no extra charge! All other benefits of a delivered CSA membership apply to the workplace CSA.

Share Delivery Service

For an additional fee, your share will be dropped off AT YOUR HOME on pick-up day! This service is available for Full Weekly Share ($50), Every-Other-Week Share ($25) ONLY. To preserve the freshness of the produce, delivery is not available for the salad share and it MUST BE PICKED UP.

FAQs

Is McGrows CSA a good deal?
McGrows’ CSA offering is competitive to other local CSA options, which range from between $30 to $35 per week, some with work requirements. HOWEVER….with the McGrows CSA program, you are also helping local youth, creating work experience programs, helping fund programs creating pathways to better health, and feeding your neighbors…and THAT’S priceless!!!

What does participation in McGrows CSA program mean?
Participation in our CSA program means you receive the freshest locally grown produce possible. Grown using organic practices, McGrows staff will harvest the day of pick-up/delivery, double rinse the produce, and have it ready for your family’s table. But that isn’t all CSA participation means. By purchasing a share of McLaughlin Grows produce, you are supporting important programs for your community. Thanks to your support, local elementary students are able to come to the farm and help plant seeds while learning about where their food comes from; high-school and college students participate in empowering their community and learn how to grow food in an urban setting; youth gain valuable work experience; people with chronic health conditions discover a path to better health through “Muskegon Prescribes Food for Health”; neighbors have access to fresh food that they would otherwise have to travel outside the city limits to purchase; and so much more!

Is What’s Listed What I Will Receive?
What grows on McLaughlin Grows Urban Farm is at the mercy of the weather and pests. While we can manage most pests, weather is another matter. The produce distributed will be determined by what grows on the farm and may differ somewhat from what is listed. Harvest and subsequently what is included in the shares is dependent upon what is available.
