Da'Wanda helps manage Sacred Suds, a community center for neighbors who gather to do laundry, eat meals, check their emails, etc. Da'Wanda is an awesome neighbor with a huge heart for the City.  She is also working on a masters degree!

Layah Marie Philips, from Muskegon Township, served as a YEP on one of our Rehab Homes. 
"I learned to be patient and made new friends.  I also learned how to control my anger because sometimes things were really challenging."

Sally James has lived in Muskegon for 25 years and has volunteered at Sacred Suds for 12. "I came to do my laundry and eventually I volunteered, because I wanted to give the community back what they gave to me." What’s kept sally there for 12 years? "Friends. I like the people here."

Kerry recently finished several months with us a "Pay It Back," a program through the Muskegon County Jail that allows offenders to serve their communities and reduce their sentence time. She and other "Pay it Back" workers have made great efforts at McLaughlin Grows Urban Farm.

Chuck volunteers at Sacred Suds. Through February he has been helping people with their tax returns. He has helped bring over $19,000 in tax rebates back to our neighbours in Muskegon. Its people like chuck, who give just a little bit of time and energy every week that keeps Community enCompass rolling. Chuck volunteers in Muskegon, you should too!

Dennis O'dell Churchwell Jr, works on our residential home rehab program through a partnership with West Michigan Works. "I'm doing a youth program where I work on houses and they help me get school if I need it with scholarships.  There's other help with car repairs and help with stuff like work books and clothes and stuff like that."

"What have I learned? I learned how to work as a team.  After this I will have learned a whole lot.  Maybe I'll start a handyman business, being self-employed and continue working on houses and rehab in the community."
